Rocking Piston Aeration System Installation in King

Pond Specifications

John has a beautiful spring fed pond, over 1/2 acre in size. This pond is uniquely heart shaped, with a length of approximately 190′ long and an average width of about 130′.  The maximum depth of the pond is 14′, with the majority of the pond being approximately 7 to 9 feet deep. The pond is surrounded by a large number of mature deciduous and coniferous trees.

Our Pond Assessment

The client was mainly concerned about the growth of cattails taking over the shoreline, as well as some submerged aquatic plants in the shallow areas of the pond. The growth of these plants had been increasing each year, threatening to overtake the pond. He also wanted to improve the water clarity and improve the overall health of the pond.

We found a significant amount of organic matter and sludge in the bottom of the pond, which was accumulating year after year, from the large number of leaves falling in the pond each autumn. This sludge layer was feeding the cattail and submerged weed growth.

Our Recommendations

We recommended that John needed 2-Diffuser Rocking Piston Aeration System to improve circulation and oxygen levels in the pond, and also help reduce the sludge layer on the bottom. In addition, we suggested a regular treatment program of MuckAway sludge reducer that would work in concert with the aeration system, to accelerate the decomposition of the sludge layer on the bottom of the pond. We also suggested adding Pond Dye to reduce submerged plant growth.  We encouraged the removal of a significant amount of the cattails, before they became out of control.

Our Services

Rocking Piston Aeration System Installation & Pond Treatment Program

We needed to install the 2-Diffuser Rocking Piston Aeration System approximately 100′ from the edge of the pond to be close to the electrical outlet. To do this, we ran about about 100′ of poly pipe from the compressor cabinet. through the a densely treed area until it was close to the shoreline. We then dug a shallow trench in the lawn, to bury the remaining poly pipe to the edge of the pond. Finally, we  attached a 2-splitter to connect the weighted airline tubing and diffuser in the pond.

In addition, we recommended a regular treatment program of MuckAway sludge reducer to work in concert with the aeration system, to accelerate the decomposition of the sludge layer on the bottom of the pond.

John took on the task of removing most of the cattails, and has keeps them at bay by periodically plucking any new shoots before they become established.

Rocking Piston Compressor Aeration System Cabinet

Rocking Piston Aeration System

The rocking piston aeration system included a fan cooled, lockable steel cabinet, 100′ of poly pipe, 200′ of weighted airline tubing and 2 diffusers. The cabinet was installed remotely from the edge pond.

Aeration System Installation Trench

Aeration System Installation

A shallow trench was dug to bury the poly pipe under the lawn. Once buried, the trench was backfilled and the sod replaced.

Large Pond Treatment Program

Pond Treatment Program

We recommended a bi-weekly pond treatment program with Muckaway, a beneficial bacteria designed to digest up to 2″ of muck per month, plus the addition of pond dye to reduce submerged weed growth.
