IMG_2573 (2) For every passionated Koi hobbyist that wants to be as up to date as possible about all the things that are currently going on during the harvest season, Facebook is the ideal place to check out on a daily basis. With various Japanese Koi breeders and other Koi Kichi being very active on this social media platform, it is the most direct source of various footage. Just like earlier this week, when I had spotted this fantastic Doitsu Kin Showa, recently acquired by Tony da Cruz from Couleurs de Niigata.

When I saw this photo for the first time, I seriously had to blink a couple of times before I could believe what I actually saw. What would you do when you see this kind of Koi? It’s so exceptional in terms of luster, coloration pattern and especially body shape. I have never seen a Doitsu Kin Showa with such a perfect body! Another characteristic of Kin Showa is the counteraction of its shine and Sumi/Gin (black/silver). The shinier the Kin Showa, the less black or grey the Sumi or Gin is. But it seems like this striking Koi shows to be an exception on that rule.

Doitsu Kin Showa – Yonsai and 58 cm, bred by Marusaka Koi Farm

Tony told me that he had to do quite some effort to acquire this unique piece of living art, and that he could make a good deal with Teruyuki Hiroi, the ‘waka-shachou’ (young boss) of Marusaka Koi Farm, as they all want to invest in the French Koi market. The aim is to keep the fish at Marusaka Koi Farm until spring 2014, prepare her for one of the major shows in Japan and then ship her to France.

Let’s hope for the best and see her on the 2014 Wakagoi Koi Show?
