Our Pond Salt now also contains a buffer to help maintain a stable pH in your pond.

Often called 'Chicken soup for Koi' - salt is something every fish or koi owner should have on hand at all times. It is recommend that you use salt, before you try anything else for parasites because it has so many benefits over other medications. Our salt is a very pure, fine grain salt that dissolves easily.

Parasite Killed By Salt

Costia, Chilodinella, Episylis, Ichthyopthirius, Trichodina and Tetrahymena are some of the more common parasites that are killed by salt.

Directions For Use:

We recommend using salt only when needed, or when your fish are vulnerable. Salt is best used if you have a parasite outbreak or during the winter or early spring when koi and goldfish are vulnerable parasites. However some enthusiasts keep a low level of salt in their ponds continuously.

For Parasite Control:

  1. Use 3 lbs of salt for every 100 gallons of water in your pond. For example. if you have a 1500 gallon pond, you would add 45 lbs of salt.
  2. Dissolve required amount of salt in a bucket of warm water, or distribute evenly around the pond. It can also be added to a waterfall or stream where the water pools.
  3. After about 1 hour, check the salinity with salinity meter. We have 2 salinity meters / salt testers available - Koi Medic Salinity Tester and Economy Salinity Tester. The slat concentration should be 0.3% or slightly above to effectively kill most parasites.
