This is a batch 2 quite rare varieties – Mukashi and Kin Kabuto Japanese koi from the breeder Marudo. Both of these varieties are an old type of ogon, precursors to the ogons seen today. Mukashi (the lighter koi in this mix) have a subtle metallic sheen and a hint of black in the fins and around the eyes. The Kin Kabuto, (the darker koi in this mix) also has subtle metallic sheen but have gold edges on the scales,
Marudo Koi Farm – now run by Hisashi Hirasawa in the Nagaoka region is one of the top breeders. Established more than 40 years ago, they have become well known within Japan and around the world. Their koi win many shows in Japan and Europe. The varieties of koi they are most well know for are Showa, Sanke, Kohaku, Kujaku and Yamabuki.
