This is a fairly small pond, under 1/8 acre in size and it is spring fed. It is approximately 75′ (23 m) long and 56′ (17 m) wide. The maximum depth of the pond is 6′, and it gradually gets shallower towards the shoreline. There are several mature deciduous trees fairly close to the pond.
The client recently moved to this property and wanted to rehabilitate this pond as it had been neglected by the previous owner for many years. Cattails had completely overtaken the shoreline and shallow areas of the pond, along with other plants and shrubs. Michael wanted to improve the appearance of the pond as well as improve the water clarity and overall health of the pond.
Below are some pictures of the pond cleaning process. We hand dug out the cattails, irises, grasses and shrubs that that had evertaken the shore area, removing as much of the root system as possible to prevent them from growing back. We also trimmed back the water lilies as they were starting to become overgrown as well. Once that was completed we ‘tidied up’ the shoreline and shaped it, providing a smooth well defined edge.
To help improve circulation and increase oxygen levels throughout the pond, we installed a custom aeration system consisting of 2 PondMaster AP-100 air pumps, 4 Cyclone 2 dual ring diffusers and weighted airline tubing.
Since the pond is visible from the house, the client also wanted to have a beautiful display fountain. Because it is a fairly small pond, we installed a 1/4 HP oase floating fountain with LED lights to provide a center of attention day and night.
