Matala EZ-Bio Pond Pump Pre-Filter

The Matala EZ-Bio Plus Pre-Filters are simple and effective biomechanical pre-filters to improve pump performance, prevent pump damage and flow reduction due to debris and clogs. Matala EZ-Bio Plus Pre-Filters are available in 2 sizes, the EZ-Bio 11 and the larger, double core EZ-Bio 20 which provides biological filtration. Both sizes come with universal barbed fittings that accept 1", 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" tubing. You can also connect directly to the core via the 1-1/2" FPT opening. Matala EZ-Bio Prefilters work well when combined with external pond filters as they allow only the smallest small particles into your main filter allowing for less frequent cleaning and more efficient filtration. Multiple units can also be joined together to increase pre-filtration capacity.

Matala EZ-Bio 11 Pre-Filter

The Matala EZ-Bio 11 Pre-Filter has a single Grey core Matala filter element which is suitable as a pre-filter for small to medium submersible pumps with flow rates up to 1980 GPH. These are ideal for submersible pumps like PondMaster Mag-Drive pumps, Aquascape Ultra pumps and almost any other submersible pump that has an intake fitting. The Matala EZ-Bio 11 measures 4-5/16" in diameter x 7-7/8" long.

Matala EZ-Bio 20 Pre-Filter

The EZ Bio 20 has 2 filter core elements, an internal fine Grey filter core combined with a outer coarse Green filter element. With this design, the EZ-Bio 20 uses progressive filtration and reduces clogging even further by capturing larger particles in the coarse outer core and finer particles in the more dense inner core. EZ Bio 20 Pre-Filter measures 8" in diameter x 7-7/8" long.

EZ-Bio Pre-Filter Feautres:

Improved Pump Efficiency

  • Prevents flow reduction due to premature pump clogging.
  • Improves energy conversion to water flow.
  • Extends pump lifetime

Easy to Install:

  • Connects to many types of pumps
  • Expandable for increased filtration capacity

Easy Clean:

  • Minimal maintenance - long interval before cleaning
  • Clean by simply dunking in a bucket of pond water

Easy to Integrate:

  • Can be placed at any distance from the pump
  • Expandable to increase filtration capacity to suit your needs

EZ-Bio 20 Addidional Features:

Highly Efficient Filtration

  • Multiple pore size
  • Dual-Core adds multiple filtration levels
  • Progressive density dramatically reduces clogging
  • Depth filtration: large filter volume to capture, store and digest particles
  • Large specific area for bio-filtration
EZ-Bio 11 Pre-Filter Specifications:
  • Diameter: 4.3″
  • Length: 7.9″
  • Recommended Flow Rate: 1980 GPH

Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Disconnect power to pump.
  2. Remove EZ Bio Filter and the attached pump from the pond.
  3. To disconnect EZ Bio Filter from the attached pump: Hold the pump in one hand and twist the EZ Bio Filter clockwise to unthread.
  4. To disassemble the EZ Bio Filter: a) Twist and unthread the black top section of the EZ Bio Filter. b) Pull the Grey Filter Core of the bottom section away from the rigid slotted platic pipe.
  5. Vigorously dunk the filter core in a bucket of pond water until it is clean. This will maintain more of the beneficial bacteria on the filter core. Spray wash the hard plastic core.
  6. Reassemble the EZ Bio Filter: a) When completely clean, push the Filter Core back onto the rigid slotted platic pipe. c) Twist the black top section clockwise onto the rigid slotted platic pipe.
  7. Reattach the EZ Bio Filter onto the pump. Twist pump counterclockwise until firmly attached.

EZ-Bio 20 Pre-Filter Specifications:
